The facts about the Sunnyvale ISD Bond Referendum:
Quality academics. Classroom space to manage growth.
Job skills & college preparation. Student & teacher safety.
Vote Yes! Developed by citizens across Sunnyvale to continue our legacy of excellence.
The Sunnyvale ISD bond referendum is a community-driven plan developed by parents, grandparents, teachers, and business and community leaders. After spending many months reviewing financial data, current academic needs, projected student growth, and existing campuses, they recommended a comprehensive and long-term $95.7 million capital plan to the Board of Trustees that reflects the wishes of our community and taxpayers. The School Board voted unanimously to place the bond referendum with three propositions on the November 5 ballot.
Vote Yes! A smart bond package to manage student growth in every school.
Proposition A of the bond package will expand instructional space in our intermediate schools and high school to prevent classroom overcrowding, provide for much-needed maintenance & updates for all campuses, expand the Agriculture Barn, fund new safe and modern buses, renovate athletic facilities, and add a second gym to the high school. A portion of Proposition A will also provide security enhancements that are proven to protect our students and teachers from outside criminal activity. Proposition C will help fund repairs needed due to recent storm damage and reimbursement of track repairs.
Vote Yes! Expand in-demand Career & Technical Education programs.
As the demand for career training quickly grows in Sunnyvale ISD, the bond referendum will provide four new Career and Technical Education classroom additions for STEM and Health Science Technology – this will allow the district to boost career certification programs and provide our students with extensive training for in-demand career fields of science, health care, medicine, and robotics.
Vote Yes! Protect award-winning marching band and student-athletes from extreme weather.
Similar to what is provided by a growing number of Texas school districts, Proposition B will pay for a District-Wide Multipurpose Student Activity Center to allow athletes in football, soccer, baseball, softball, and track and field programs, and our marching band and cheerleaders, to practice indoors during extreme weather. This is especially important with new state rules restricting outdoor practices in high temperatures that threaten the health of our students. The center will also be used by physics students conducting experiments that require more instructional space and by youth sports teams managed by the Sunnyvale Raiders Youth Sports Association.
Vote Yes! Much-needed maintenance & updates for all Sunnyvale campuses.
The leaders of Sunnyvale ISD continuously monitor every campus for the maintenance and infrastructure updates needed to run our schools as efficiently as possible. With voter approval of Proposition C, the district will replace and/or make upgrades like energy smart air conditioning and heating to save tax dollars, flooring, roofing and paint, repairs for recent storm damage, as well as adding new and safer buses.
Vote Yes! Property tax rate will be 20% lower than the district’s tax rate just five years ago.
With voter approval of the approximately 3¢ increase, our property tax rate will be 30¢ lower than in 2019 due to a series of tax cuts and our district leaders' responsible management of our tax dollars. Homeowners 65 years of age and older will never experience an increase in their tax rate if they have filed for their senior citizen homestead exemption. The district’s best practices approach has helped Sunnyvale ISD earn the highest ranking from the state’s Financial Integrity Rating System and achieve an ‘A’ district accountability rating from the Texas Education Agency.
